A local Montessori school wanted to convert an old storage room into a makerspace for a new middle school program. A friend and I worked for two summers to build out the space to completion.
We helped renovate the space and install the pegboards, built furniture and created a space with different tools and spaces, including bike repair and woodworking.
As my first makerspace build, I researched best practices when creating a space for people to invent, dream and innovate on ideas. We went with a space best suited for a multitude of different types of making, from wood, to metal, to 3D printing.
We chose metal workbenches from IKEA to fit budget and give plenty of space to store more tools and student projects.
